NEW YORK—The UN nominated Afghan media personality Golali Karimi for the Nobel Peace Prize, plunging Geneva’s women’s-rights circuit into crisis after discovering that an Afghan woman could achieve fame without attending a conference.

Delegates called an emergency session to determine whether freedom meant choosing one’s career or choosing the career approved by the Women’s Leadership Steering Committee.

Karimi’s modeling career unsettled Afghanistan’s cultural guardians. Rosemary DiCarlo proposed measuring how much liberty women could exercise before next year’s conference budget became unnecessary.

The Taliban condemned Karimi’s visibility. Social-media moralists agreed, forming the first international coalition against a woman’s wardrobe.

Conference veterans sought career counseling after discovering Instagram offered followers without accreditation or Richard Bennett introducing them.

Hibatullah demanded Karimi cover up and proposed making her his 14th concubine. UN officials urged dialogue, warning that rejection could undermine the inclusive marriage framework.

Nargis Nehan protested: “First gender apartheid, now ageism? What have we middle-aged women done to be excluded from the Emir’s matrimonial peace process?”

The Taliban and UN established a Joint Matrimonial Office in Geneva. Kandahar would approve brides, Geneva would fund consultations, and Afghan women would finally have a seat at the table.

Abdullah entered competition when he dressed up as the groom.
